The AboutSkin team offers the latest evidenced-based treatments for its patients. AboutSkin also has a panel of in-office customized prescription medications, which are sometimes prescribed in an effort to save our patients money out of pocket, given the rising costs of prescription medications.
Our team is heavily involved in clinical research pertaining to medical dermatology, participating in numerous studies with far-reaching applications. The AboutSkin team was involved in a successful trial that focused on photodynamic therapy (PDT) for treating superficial basal cell carcinoma.
For certain cancers, another effective medical dermatology treatment is Mohs surgery, offered by Dr. Joel Cohen at our Greenwood Village office. Dr. Cohen underwent a full American College of Mohs Surgery fellowship that included extensive training and involved working with more than 500 skin cancer cases.

Through this continued education, we discover innovative tools—such as the dermatoscope, a diagnostic tool used by physicians to assist in the evaluation of skin lesions. as melanoma.

The dermatoscope is a handheld device our doctors use to get a better view of the skin than we can observe with our eyes alone. Equipped with a bright light source and polarized filters that remove glare, this microscope magnifies the skin 10 times. This magnification under light allows your doctor to see the intricate details that make up moles and other skin lesions. Even more importantly, the dermatoscope gives us a peek into the deeper layers of the skin, which cannot be viewed with the naked eye.
There is a significant benefit to the use of this advanced medical dermatology tool, which has been widely used in Europe and Australia for the past decade.
